So, Vettel runs away with it, Webber second, Alonso 3rd and Hamilton in a very creditable 4th, after a nightmare pitstop with a wheel nut crossthreading.

All in all an exciting race, with over 70 pitstops in total, most drivers stopping an incredible 4 times. Plenty of overtaking - the new DRS and KERS have really made F1 even more watchable.

Wasn't there something like 80 passes in Turkey???!!! IMO, there's been great action in F1 for the past 3-4 years - and it's even better now with the DRS and KERS. So when I encounter people on (non racing) boards who say, "I don't watch F1 cause there's no passing"... I figure they never really watched it to begin with.

Vettel is definitely the one to beat. Interesting how Ferrari (Alonso's anyway) was so well on pace in Istanbul. But I wonder how well they can keep up the fight. I still say McLaren will eclipse Ferrari this year. But I don't think anyone has got the goods to beat Vettel for the title.

Just a couple of hours to go. Will Webber and Vettel take each other out and hand one to Hamilton? Or will one of the Red Bull brothers take this one? Does Alonso stand a chance for even a podium? And what of Button?

That kid is rather amazing. You can't deny that. I was rooting for Hamilton, but I've always liked young Seb too. As long as Alonso doesn't win, I'm good with it. :)

Well, I´m German + a bit proud of Sebastian, but what I liked muuuch more is the fact that Alonso didn´t win in his own country ..that whiney ...lol :D:D:angels:

And I'm sure he blamed everyone else for the fact that he couldn't stay up front.

I'll be a happy person if Alonso stays out of the running for the title this year, and even happier if he were to "accidently" take Sebastian out while he were at it.

Sorry, I have much love for the kid but I'd really like to see McLaren back on top this year. ;)

@Petra : I got nothing against McLaren or against the redones, but I dont like that Alonso-whiney-playgirl at all .
Vettel, Hamilton,Webber, Button . No probs if one of them gets champ this year ...:):)

I agree with you both. As I said in this (or some other) F1 thread, I'm a fan of ABA (Anybody BUT Alonso). Other than Alonso (and Pastor Maldonado), there really aren't any other F1 drivers that I strongly dislike. I pull for Hamilton, but I'm not all broken up if Vettel, Button or Webber wins. But if Alonso wins, my girl threatens to schedule me for an anger management class.

Speaking of German drivers, I'm hoping that Nico Hulkenberg makes it back to a full-time drive by next season. Toro Rosso should bounce one (or both) of their goofs and put him in! It's a crime that Williams gave him the boot just to get Maldonado's Venezuelan blood money. Good luck on that guy ever getting them a pole like Nico did last year. Sad, but I think that team is in the process of slowly dying.

I am really enjoying the racing this season. I thought that the DRS could have been activated earlier on the start/finish straight to open up a chance for overtaking in Spain, but that aside, the tyres, DRS and KERS have all made for a much better spectacular this year.

And, Petra, I'm with you on McLaren.

...if Massa makes it ...no problem. :D

I'd LOVE to see Massa make it. Anything that would totally infuriate the whiney spaniard I'm down for. I can't imagine anything that would piss off Alonso more.

Unfortunately, I think Massa's head injury has slowed him down just enough that he can't really compete for the championship.

My only complaint is there hasn't been a major crash or race incident!! :cthulhu: Otherwise I think the new tires and KERS (I suppose DRS when it's actually working) have been fantastic and has really encouraged overtaking.

I wonder if they've gotten brave enough to try some overtaking this weekend. Though I'm disappointed ticket sales for Monaco have been decent and they won't be opening the gates to the public. Otherwise hubby and I would have been taking off tonight for the race. ;-)

Just imagine Alonso wiping out Schumi. Like Schumi getting his fourth wheel knocked off by Coulthard or something

Best taking out Schumi AND Vettel, and Webber making second place after Hamilton

Oh that would be genius :1orglaugh

Vettel got the Pole Position.

I think there's no need to run this race, Vettel already won it.

... unless he makes a mistake... or weather etc fucks up the race

Not very likely, though
