Well, darn. Carlos Sainz got the Ferrari seat and Daniel is headed over to McLaren. Eh, that's OK. With the Merc p/u, the McLaren is still a step up from Renault.

I still haven't heard anything about Vettel though. I'm going to guess retirement could be in the cards for him.

That or a year off and see what develops. I heard rumours that if Toto leaves Mercedes to front up Aston Martin that Vettel would be a good driver to take with him, but no clue if there's any truth to back this up

I could definitely see Seb just retiring. He has a family and four world championships. What is left to prove? And if he isn't in a top seat, what's the point?

Honestly, after Montreal last year, I think he was just finished with F1. He doesn't need this shit anymore.

Mercedes ready to sell the team

Mercedes are rumoured to be actively shopping their Formula 1 team to potential buyers, says former team owner Giancarlo Minardi.


Yet to extend its commercial agreement with F1 owners Liberty Media beyond the 2020 season, the Silver Arrows’ fate has been a subject of significant speculation.

And while individuals in the company have moved to downplay the rumours, they continue to persist according to Minardi, who still retains contacts in the F1 paddock.

“Rumours from abroad speak of a Mercedes ready to sell the team at the end of 2021, remaining in F1 only as an engine supplier,” he wrote on his personal website.

The rumours about massive shakeups are growing. Read Toto Wolff is about to step down, today, I think.

I can imagine this being a big gamble on getting the powers to be to agree to points a bit more in Mercedes' favor, the big teams like powergames like these.

Then again, we had BMW and we had Porsche, many big names drop in and come in, so why not Mercedes take a couple years as pure engine provider.

I certainly hope you're right, that Merc stays in as at least an engine supplier, if not as a works team. Especially with the news of Williams putting itself (or a majority interest) up for sale, we don't need any big teams or sponsors exiting now. I hate the thought that the future of the sport could come down to a small handful of super rich guys propping up multiple teams. Stroll is already in with Aston/Racing Point. And now he's rumored to be involved with Toto on a Mercedes deal. Michael Latifi might be Williams' savior, and he also owns a 10% interest in McLaren (I'm guessing he still holds that position).

I've been watching a lot of old F1 videos from the 70s and 80s on YouTube. It would be my dream come true if an independent engine supplier (I'm thinking Cosworth) could make its way back into F1 with a competitive power unit. But these things are just too expensive and too complex now.

Speculation about Mercedes exit from F1 ‘unfounded and irresponsible'

World champions Mercedes have moved to reiterate their commitment to Formula 1 in the wake of speculation in Germany suggesting there was a plan to sell the team to Racing Point and Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll…


It comes just days after Formula 1 announced sweeping changes to the regulations from 2021 onwards, which includes the introduction of a cost cap to help ensure the 10 teams that race in F1 can become sustainable businesses in the long term and compete on a level-playing field.


The Silver Arrows, who like all teams have a bi-lateral contract to compete in F1 up until the end of the current campaign, also said the plan is to continue with Toto Wolff involved in the team, following speculation Wolff had decided to step down from his role.


Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes, said in a statement: “Speculation regarding a potential withdrawal from Formula 1 continues to be unfounded and irresponsible.

OK folks, let's say you have a Formula One team and you're in desperate need of sponsorship. And let's say you get a call from a bearded, ZZ Top wannabe lookin' dude named William Storey. He says that he's thinking about an offer to sponsor your team (again). What do you do? Would you let him finish his proposal or just slam the phone down, thinking that your life has now reached an all time low?

Rich Energy could be interested in sponsoring Williams Formula 1 team according to CEO William Storey, after the Grove outfit announced the termination of their deal with ROKiT.


Williams ended the deal with ROKiT following the news that the team was looking for new investors and potentially open to a sale, with poor performance causing Williams Grand Prix Holdings to face considerable financial losses.

In response, Storey posted a prospective Rich Energy-sponsored Williams livery on Twitter and claimed the team needed a new business model.

“This livery was proposed by Williams Racing 18 months ago,” he wrote.

“IMO beyond a 9 figure capital injection, they need a new business model & new leadership. That way they can build on the heritage, run the team on 1st class lines & enjoy the F1 renaissance they deserve.”

The energy drinks brand came to the attention of F1 fans last season as the sponsor of Haas, with the American team adopting a black and gold livery as a result.

However, the relationship was rather tumultuous, with Storey making a series of bizarre posts about the team on social media, and it was terminated before the end of the season.

WE ARE RACING AGAIN!

Formula 1 announced on Tuesday it would start its delayed season in Austria on July 5 with eight races in Europe over the space of 10 weeks.


8 races in 10 weeks is ambitious, but I'm REALLY hoping that they can pull it off. Let's get back to normal, folks!

For us fans in Europe, a MASSIVE change is nearing:

RTL, a private, but free-to-view cable channel, is quitting F1 from its program. So now, we have to turn to Sky Sport TV, which is pay-per-view.

Well, I already have Sky Soccer Pacvkage, I will add the new F1 deal. The new program form will be better, and I hope some of the old F1 hosts get swapped out.

Great race. Lewis being Lewis. Orlando Norris gets fastest lap for the second week in a row. Great to see the McLarens coming back. Ferrari disaster - LeClerk admitted it was his fault. What a final lap from Norris, though, picking up 2 places. Looking forward to Hungary next weekend.
