The apathy of this board towards the Mike Brown shooting in Ferguson is commendable.

What I would do is irrelevant. I expect officers of the law to conduct themselves in a professional, ethical, and constitutional manner at all times. I expect them to use reasonable judgment at all times, and use appropriate force and no more at all times, and yes I realize there are times when that does indeed call for lethal force. I expect them show restraint when it helps the situation. I expect them to show empathy for those they are to protect. I expect them to think of everybody as innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. I expect the public to not be under a higher standard than them; it should be the opposite. I expect them to willingly take appropriate punishments for their wrongdoing. With more power should come more responsibility not less. I expect them to come forward with any knowledge of wrongdoing that their peers in law enforcement do and fight against those people just as adamantly as they do all the other criminals. If that upsets them as it makes their jobs harder, puts them at more risk, or just inconveniences them they are more than free to find another line of work as they don’t deserve the one they have.

All the people in any organization like that or any pubic office are public servants and thus are subservient to the public, not people with more power than us that can go on power trips when it suits them because they know they can get away with it.

As they should. But some don't live up to that standard. Knowing that, why would you give them a reason to abuse that power? If that's the case?

Again, why I don't talk back to a police officer or otherwise antagonize one - he or she could kill me at that moment if they want to. Sure, if the racial dynamic is right, you'll have whole communities and even the president protesting but it doesn't change the fact that you're dead.

And I'm not saying that's the case with either of these incidents (unjustified) but why be stupid about it? Just follow the narrative, assume the worst and act accordingly.

When the cuffs come out YOU ARE going to jail. How the process goes is up to the person being arrested.

As long as people refuse to cooperate with the officer these cases will continue to occur. For some reason they are more freqent with "people of color" but anyone who's watched Cops ( the tv show ) can see for themselves that for whatever reason "people of color" seem to disproportionately refuse to compy with the officers instructions.

That being the case this problem will continue to occur and "people of color" will likely be more frequently involved.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Laws don't apply when white cops kill black men, there are above the law, they never have to face the consequences of their actions.
I'm not saying that, in this case, the cop should have been charged with First Degree Murder but not at least simple assault ?!

You're a racist. A sad, misguided, pathetic racist, and you starting shit like this, just makes it worse. You, are the reason shitbags like Al Sharpton thrive. These people don't want justice, they want revenge, and they certainly don't want to held accountable for anything they do. People complain about crime, and when the law tries to stop it, they complain about that. All these people really want, is an excuse to start shit, and walk away without consequence.

We were in a parking lot drinking with a couple of friends. I was under-aged. A police officer pulls up and there's a beer bottle sitting on the roof of my car. So WTF am I going to say? Anyways, the officer was going to let us off with a warning but one of the guys we were with, who happened to be black, and yes, had a chip on his shoulder about the police, started being uncooperative and giving the guy attitude. I'm thinking, dude, STFU, he's about to let us go.

Again, STFU and comply. If you have an issue, get with a lawyer afterwards when you're not at risk of immediate death or incarceration.

True story...

I was with my photographer Jeff, one of his employees and one of the employees kids who was 15. We were in the parking lot of his retail business, about 9:30pm on the 3rd of July. The Fifteen year old decided to light off a fountain firework, one that had spark showers and finished with 3 roman candle type shots. After it went off Jeff went over to pick it up and put it in the dumpster. As he is in the middle of heading across the parking lot to the dumpster an Everett Police officer come screeching into the driveway throws open his door and screams "Stop right there!"

Jeff freezes in place but points at the dumpster he is a few feet from to let the officer know what he is doing.

Officer yells "get your ID out"
Jeff drops the firework and checks his pockets
Officer "get out your fucking ID NOW or you going to jail!"
Jeff puts his hands up and says "it's in my truck"
the officer drops to one knee behind his door, puts his hand on his gun and yells "Get it out NOW!"

So this whole situation ended fine, he took the ID over to him, explained he owned the business and property we were on, and that the 15 year old lived in the next town over where fireworks were not illegal and didn't realize they were in Everett.

The whole point is... everyone there was white, Everett is not generally known as a racist city, if Jeff had acted irresponsible in any way he may have been shot right in front of us.
The cops are just out of control. I used to look up to them, and if this was an isolated event in my life I may still, but it's not, and has been re-enacted similarly a half dozen times during my short life.

Mandy, I live in Everett and have had run-ins with asshole police officers and even ones who are obviously trying to instigate a confrontation. But that's my point. If you're "Yes sir, no sir" with them, chances are you're not going to get shot. Is that fucked up? Yeah. But you're alive. On the other hand I've dealt with local police (Washington State Patrol) who had me dead to rights for speeding and wreckless driving (I was totally in control) in my ******* but let me off with a warning. So this is definitely not universal but a reflection of the general population.

Whatever. You're so fine.

These people don't want justice, they want revenge
Coming from you, that's funny !

What these people want is Justice and that is exactly what they are denied.
How can there be Justice when the prosecutors depends on cop unions for endorsement ?
How can there be Justice when cops are being investigated by other cops ?
It's like asking Joe Biden a report on the possibility of opening an impeachment procedure over Benghazi !

One of his points being that the incidents of police officers being killed in the line of duty is relatively low so they can afford to take more risks. I'm glad the airline industry doesn't think that way or at least I hope they don't.
What he says is that they can afford to take more risk for themselves and less for the citizens, the people they have to protect and to serve.
Cops are here to protect innocent people from criminals. If that includes killing criminals for the sake of their own lives or the lives of other citizens, OK. But when they start killing non-criminals, they've crossed a line and they should have to face the consequences of their actions.

I worked in Everett for 5 years. The cops are armed like a SEAL Team. Semiautos on the hip, M-16s in their cars. And an attitude that lives up to their equipment.

And lest we forget, when the shit hits the fan à la 9/11 it's the police among first responders running up the stairwells while everyone else is running away.

I don't care if it's part of their "job description" and expected of them like that moron in that TYT video says, any human being willing to put their life on the line for others is going above and beyond IMO.

So fuck you.

And lest we forget, when the shit hits the fan à la 9/11 it's the police among first responders running up the stairwells while everyone else is running away.
Port Authority police officers killed on 9/11 : 37
NYPD police officers killed on 9/11 : 23
NYFD fire fighters killed on 9/11 : 341
NYFD paramedics killed on 9/11 : 2

For every cop killed, nearly 6 fire-fighters were killed as well. So, sorry but those first responders running in the stairwells were fire fighter, not police officers

None of those stats negate what I said about police officers on 9/11 or that they risk their lives on a daily basis. Police died in those towers alongside firefighters trying to evacuate people.

Truth is being a cop is not as dangerous as some say it is. But it is the only job in which you can kill non-crminal citizens without having to face the consequences of it.
A logger who makes a mistake and accidentally kill his co-worker (or a random person just hiking in the area) will surely be sanctionned. A cop who shots a non-criminal citizen won't even be trialed.

You never had friends nor acquaintances who served in French or even in US law enforcement. I have met Paul Barril and Mr Prouteau from the GIGN as well as some high ranking personnel from the DGSE several times during the last 15 years. Back when I used to travel to the US to visit my cousins living in NY and Texas, I had the opportunity to get introduced to some of their friends who were either working respectively in NY and TX states in police departments, including NY Special Victims Unit, New York State Bridge Authority, New York State DMV Division of field investigations as well as in Dallas Police Department CAPERS Assaults and Homicides units. As cops say in the US, they bleed blue which is the color of their uniform. Unfortunately, you never who you deal with especially if he refuses and try to use lethal moves or uses deadly force like by sticking you with a knife in the abdomen. Unfortunately the gang bangers and the criminals are starting their misdoings at a young age. Also for me as well as for a law enforcement officer with experience, someone wearing baggy pants, wearing nike air max shoes or timberlands and a hood is a thug. Some thugs have a weapon and they need to be dealt correctly. Those who hate law enforcement and military personnel are the ones who like and always back up criminals. Being a cop is a rough job and you have a lot of shit to deal with every day, being a cop in brooklyn, queens or harlem is far to be a relaxing because you never know you can kill you first or what can happen. Cops in Europe and especially in France are weaklings. I have much more respect for US and Canadian cops because they deal with criminals in an efficient way. A lot of French policemen killed themselves, the reason of this is because of Mrs Taubirah socialist bullshit laxist justice law encouraging the scum to be punished to the minimum. In France when a cop or some jewellery owner shoots a robber, he goes in prison. The American way of justice doesn't go this way, it says kill the criminal be fore he kills you, on that I can only agree

I've encountered many people who claim to have met high ranked and very experienced cops, to know spies (and of course these spies have told 'em secrets), to know things that other people don't know, have seen things only they have seens, etc. And I know most of them are just liars. So stop pretending to be someone you're not, I don't buy it.

I've said it a few post higher, I'm not against cops killing crminals, I'm against cops killing non-criminal citizens.
Michael Brown, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner were not criminals.
The Rumain Brisbon case is different since he was a suspect in a druc bust case and had a struggle with the officer. Comparing this case to the 3 others is insulting to these 3 people.

Yeah, and you know what else it is...it's the only people you can call that will come to your rescue, no questions asked, any time of day or night, with little to no knowledge of the possible dangers they face, just because it's their job, and you need their help. It could be a set up, by some scum bag that wants to gun them down...just because he hates cops. It could be some old person that's angry that their television doesn't work. Whatever it is, they will come, and face possible death, because it's their job. Many people are thankless of that...maybe because they got a speeding ticket, because they were speeding, but the cop wouldn't give them a break...likely because they acted like an asshole to him, and showed him no respect, but I for one appreciate the bullshit they face, I know several of them, a couple are close friends. I wouldn't want the fucking job, that's for sure.

Public apologizes ? Players disciplined ? I though there was some kind of freedom of expression in the US ? Doesn't the 1st amendment apply to NFL ?

This has nothing to do with the First Amendment and you know this or at least you should if you're going to evoke it.

I don't think those players should be disciplined but just let them continue to make fools of themselves like some here.

Each one of those stupid cocksuckers on the Rams should be fined one game check. Their dumbassery is on a par with Boz's NCAA t-shirt he wore on the sidelines of the Orange Bowl. More so because they perpetuated a false narrative that incites people to do stupid shit.

As a Ram fan (yes, there are some of us left), I do not want to see the players making political statements on the field. I watch sports to get away from politics.

What they do when they are out of uniform is their business.

That's Olbermann's opinion....not fact. Yes, the historical references he made are factual, but the issues we are discussing here are totally different from what he was using as illustrations of "political statements" being made as long ago as the 1880s. Those issues were directly related to the field of play....whether or not players of a different color could take the field and compete with white players. The protest the Rams' players made had to do with an off-the-field issue and, although I totally understand their sentiment and purpose, the forum they used was totally inappropriate in my opinion. By comparison, I would not be allowed to lobby for a particular social or political cause while I am on duty where I work and neither should these players. I would surmise that this type of display will not be repeated and I will be seriously disappointed if it is. On the other hand, what they do on their own time is their business and they should be able to express their feelings on the matter without restriction. However, when they are on the field and wearing those Ram horn helmets, they need to keep social and political issues where they belong....off the field and separate from their workplace.
