Aaaand once again, looking at a banned members last posts, there is nothing to lead the inquiring mind to a reason for banning.

It's like they get a commission or something. "Shit, my kid needs braces. Who can I ban?"

Ever consider the possibility that the mods deleted the offending posts?

I'm not disagreeing, because around here you may be right. But how does that post get anyone banned?

The ability to ban needs to be taken away from the mods. On the occasion that they get their panties in a knot over something somebody posted, they should refer the post to a third party like Petra, Roald or someone with an ounce of brains and discretion, to decide further action.

For all the legitimate bans that happen, there have been too many that were bogus (including mine) and it is the environment that this has created that has caused the board to slow down and the quality to slide downhill. I've mentioned how things are different, Will has, and now Spleen has too. Keep ignoring the obvious. When there's 10 of you left and 2 out of every 3 threads are what Fisher posted, and 95% of the rest are Dirk and O'Malley giving each other reach arounds, maybe you'll get the hint.

If the post was offensive enough or violated the board rules, it could have been deleted. That would explain why it wouldn't show up in the posting history.

Diva is definitely one of my favorite posters as well. I hope it's just a temporary ban.

I've been banned twice by that dumbass twat Georges, and I'm still here. The first time I was banned for telling M12 that he wasn't behaving like a moderator after he made a personal attack on me. The second time was for insulting some fucking useless new members who don't even post here any more.

By being too reactionary and not taking the time to get a clarification from the offender. i.e.-

"Hey, why did you post this?"

"I was using sarcasm to make a joke and a point at the same time."

"Oh, I see. Well, this is too close to the line, let's delete this and you try to use a little more discretion in your posts in the future."

I don't know. Maybe all that happened. Maybe that wasn't the post. It was the only recent one I saw that might be breaking a rule. ~shrug~

Being a moderator, like a policeman, can often be a thankless task.
They are only human (as far as I can tell), and may sometimes take things to heart, or even misread situations. Some are better than others, and sometimes swift and harsh action is required to stop something before it goes too far.
We do not know, at the moment, the circumstances behind the ban, or even who carried out the ban, so any speculation is purely that.
It is quite possible to be banned for something that was not publicly posted - maybe through an unsavoury PM either to a mod or another member.

There's some kind of scale but there is also personal intervention. I was perma-banned, no parole. I stayed away for a few months then asked Petra to let me back in, which she was nice enough to do. (Not that you're interested but, during my hiatus I changed the way I look at this board and modified the way I participate)

So, the lesson for today is, if you feel you've been screwed, run to Mommy. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, don't get pissed (like I did), don't take it too far (like I did). Just PM the boss and say, "Mommy, georges is picking on me", and let her straighten it out. Because that's how we roll on this board where chicks take it up the ass.......and so do we.
