NFL '13 Season Thread

A tough go last night until EJ Manuel went out but thanks to Benjamin, Ward, Weeden (who's the starter again since Hoyer's probably done for the season) and Gordon etc., the Browms came through. McGahee is all the Browns have in the run game and averaged only 2.8 a carry but it was just enough to win. I'm a long time suffering Browns fan too so i'll take a win anytime no matter how we do it. Detroit's in town next week so..........anyway, a team effort last night on Jim Brown night

Yeah, I'm not going to get too excited about winning 3 straight. I mean... we are still the Browns.

I think we'll learn a lot about how good the Browns are in the next two weeks.

Don't forget Manning's pick six to Tracy Porter in that Superbowl either which effectively ended the game.

Which QB has been more clutch in the playoffs? Eli or Peyton? The answer is obvious.

This is the biggest reason why I said hes the anti-clutch. It was all on his shoulders, pressure moment and what did he do? CHOKE COCK.

You got away with it today Peyton since Romo is a bigger choke artist than you but your defense sucks cock and I'm going to laugh when they fuck you over at the worst moment.

Clutch ability is a myth. Choking is also probably large a myth, outside of very rare situations with one or two people each generation where they really do suffer mental breakdowns. It's what sports writers and fans that don't know about rational analysis come up with because it makes a good narrative and sounds good. Unfortunately, it too often lacks in rational thought. Assigning ability to people over such a small sample isn't a good way to judge ones' abilities. Often the truth is boring so it gets overlooked with what creates more hype.

Eli and the Giants also have been some of the biggest recipients of luck he last five or six years in the history of the NFL, maybe of all sports. I can think of no other team in major professional sports that might have barely cracked the top ten in their sport in each year they won while winning two championships in a short span of time. Even if somehow people had some magic mojo that made them better in critical situations, which they don't, it would be other people on the Giants that made that happen on not Eli. When he won Eli was an slightly above average cog in a slightly above average machine that overachieved at just the right time. Payton has had multi-year stretches where he was pretty much the the only thing holding a crappy team together and they still won a lot. It's probably an ability that only one person in the NFL has every had, that person being Peyton Manning. Maybe at his height Jim Brown could do it.

I would also like to point out that thinking Payton got lucky this game let along that that Romo choked is ridiculous. Romo threw for 5 touchdowns, one interception, had over 500 yards passing, and HIS TEAM SCORED 48 FREAKING POINTS. At that point it's nearly entirely the defense's fault the game was lost than anything the QB did. Manning might have even did better considering he was sacked zero times in the game and had more first downs along with scoring the five touchdowns he did. The game being that close is in no way his fault either.

I guess it might go to show what it takes to beat the Broncos this year though. Score 50 points and you still only might win the game.

Yes 48 points should win a game for you every single time, but it doesn't change the fact that when the game was on the line and his team needed him to make a play he did what he always does and choked. Its sports, it happens. To say say it doesn't is just stupid, tons of great players can put up the stats but not all can get the job done when it matters most. I've watched both QB's over the entire course of their careers, I know who they are and what they do. Keep defending them if you want but you're only believing what the media tells you instead of seeing things for what they are.

2 championships and an MVP in Denver. Who's going to give them more? 9 time Pro Bowl.

Money up against the Giants. Even money losing the next 2 of 3. 3 to 1 losing the next 3. Does this team hve 4 wins on their schedule?

I'll be going up to my brother's place for a Jet's game sometime soon. I'll pay 5-2 if they go over .500.

For Tony it seems to be Packers or none. :D

Anyway this was an awesome game to watch! Peyton did fantastic once again. I loved his rushing TD. NOBODY saw that one coming! He just walked across the line.

I'm a little worried about the Broncos defense though. Giving up 48 points?! And letting Romo throw for over 500 fucking yards?!

That and the penalties could break their neck one day. I hope they'll improve soon.

I'm a Cowboys fan all the way and that was an awesome game to watch. Romo did pull the usual "romo" at the end but at least it was high scoring and exciting! I am also a Peyton fan in general so if we culd get him to come play for the Cowboys I would be all about it lol. Or Drew Brees. Either way!!

Now that Julio Jones is done for the year we can honestly say that this was the best thing that happened in Atlanta in 2013.

It is impossible to predict which version of this team will show up on a given Sunday. Certainly makes things interesting.

Time for some GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS for you Broncos haters.

GOOD NEWS--Starting next week, the Broncs get into the real meat of their schedule, with challenges at Indy, at San Diego, at New England, and at Kansas City. In fact, six of their last ten games are on the road.
BAD NEWS--They have Peyton Manning.

GOOD NEWS--The Broncs are third from last in total defense in the AFC, allowing 158 points so far this season.
BAD NEWS--Champ Bailey returns next week, and Von Miller soon after. And they still have Peyton Manning.

GOOD NEWS--Peyton Manning is starting to show he's human, with a less than stellar performance against heavy underdogs Jacksonville.
BAD NEWS--He's still Peyton Manning.

GOOD NEWS--Yeah...Manning is a stud, but what about a running game?
BAD NEWS--The Broncos have Knowshon Moreno...AND Peyton Manning.

GOOD NEWS--Okay, okay...they MAY make it to the Super Bowl, but the NFC is a lot better than the AFC this year.
BAD NEWS--Every single NFC team does NOT have Peyton Manning. Denver has Peyton Manning.

GOOD NEWS--Even if Peyton Manning takes this team to the post season, his playoff record is dismal.
BAD NEWS--Pat Bowlen has assembled a fine and balanced team of rock-hard veterans, and crafty new players. Plus he has Peyton Manning.

Note to self. Stop betting the spread on Carolina games. Who are they? Lost out on a big payday because I thought they'd roll over for AP.

the NFC is better than the AFC? The NFC is 13 - 19 versus the AFC. Five NFC teams have one or no wins. Only two AFC teams fit that bill. One is Pittsburgh and they will finish with 7 wins. It is still relatively early in the season, but overall, the AFC is better.
