Has anyone checked out Caprica?

The prequel series to Battlestar Galactica was on this past Friday and I was wondering if anyone else caught it and what they thought about it. It's got potential and it's interesting to see what life on The 12 Colonies was like until the Cylons decided Humanity didn't deserve to live and nuked the Colonies.

Gotta be honest,I'm all BSG'ed out. After that crapfest of a series finale,I really am not interested in it anymore, and I loved the series while it was on.

I guess if it gets enough rave reviews, then maybe if I'm not into anything else,I'll get into it somewhere down the road.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Isn't that a spice? It's made from bell peppers or chili peppers, I think...

Never got into battlestar galactica mainly cause 100% of the shit they show on sci-fi is just that...shit! Caprica I'm sure is no different!

I didn't really watch BSG until the last season or so. But Carolina Girl came for a visit Friday and we watched Caprica and a DVR of Stargate: Continuim, that I'd been saving for her.

I like backstories and prequels, when they're well done. And I thought this one was pretty good. I'll probably watch it again. I was a HUGE Stargate: SG-1 fan. I wasn't as big a fan of Atlantis and I really hate the Stargate Universe series. It's like a messy, dark, depressing rip-off of BSG, IMO. But so far, Caprica seems to have decent writing and good actors.

Hahaha!
The 12 Colonies are named after the signs of the Greek Zodiak
Caprica -Capricorn
Picon - Pices
And so on...

It was ok. I think they should have invented there own sci fi as in set on earth our earth only set years ahead of now. They could have it where some colonial sneaked down documentation on ftl technology or anything. And a journal which could easily be in some sorta seal hence we dig it up later. Get the tech and know the history.

The centurions the <rebel faction> that is still out there and have obviously grown. Could do a drama on colonization of space, the dangers of repeating the past mistakes and there interaction with the <rebel faction of cyclons>. Shit man they could have thrown in ETs.

I hate prequels.

PS: Excuse the <> fooking auto linking of pornstar names lulz

I was a big BSG fan and I really enjoyed the Caprica pilot. Solid premise. Good writing. Different than BSG, but with enough similarities to make it worthwhile for the fans. Pretty good cast chemistry too.

I'll also add that the Caprica DVD is better than the SyFy series premiere. Not only did they cut out quite a bit of nudity and gore to make it "basic cable" friendly, but the deleted scenes on the DVD fill out the story quite a bit (and give some hints as to the direction the show will go).

I got it a couple of months ago and really liked it and decided it was a show worth looking into. I watched it this past Friday to see how they put it together for TV. It does have a very differnt feel to it then BSG but it's definitely in the same world.

So far, so good. I enjoyed last night's episode. It's so much better than the latest Stargate series (which I don't understand or like). I think I'll really begin following this show - I think I'm beginning to get hooked. And I may check out that Caprica DVD that you guys are talking about. I didn't even know that existed. There aren't any spoilers in it, are there?

I got into BSG after the New Caprica Occupation (Season 2.5?) and went all the way through to the end. I thought it was a brilliant show, hated the way it ended. Looked forward to "Caprica", didn't know about the DVD either :)o) BUT...

I thought the Caprica series premiere was a bit too much of a Matrix-ripoff. I really couldn't look past that. I also didn't like the way Joseph Adama was introduced/setup--in BSG isn't he considered a legal genius? Joseph Adama, in Caprica, is nothing more than a bagman for Organized Crime

I winced badly at the fight between Zoey and her mother in the series premier. Eric Stoltz (Graystone) just stood around while his wife and daughter were about to go MMA in the kitchen? Nice future.....

I was intrigued by the religion issue (Monotheism vs Polytheism) and thought that was convincing in the "world of Caprica"...

I'm going to give it 4 episodes before I decide if it's in my DVR rotation or not...

You know more about BSG than I do. I didn't pick up on it til pretty late in its run (and I know almost nothing about the Matrix franchise). So I don't know a lot of the background that was setup for the characters we're just now seeing.

One question, is the Graystone family mentioned at all in BSG? They seem pretty powerful at the time of Caprica. If not, it'll be interesting to see how that line dies out.

Maybe I'm enjoying Caprica so far because I don't have much knowledge of BSG. :dunno:

Off the top of my head...there's been no mention of the Family Graystone at all in BSG. Joseph Adama was referenced during Baltar's trial.

Caprica was seen as "the elite" colony and Tauron was characterized as the Farming Colony...and so the class-based prejudices that were in the Caprica premiere do follow what was early on introduced in BSG. Baltar presented himself as a Caprican but he's really from a rural, poor colony (I forgot which one)....

I don't think there will be any kind of real reference to future BSG characters in Caprica (other than the Adama family of course) but I haven't seen last night's episode nor did I do any Caprica spoiler snooping. I think they basically want to start from scratch with Caprica....

The deleted scenes might be spoilers for storylines they still intend to use sometime in the first season. But my guess is that, if they are, they'd be used within the first couple episodes.

As far as Joseph Adama being a legal genius, the implication in BSG was that he had only attained that status by the time Lee (his grandson) was a child, which means not for many more years. Right now he's just an ordinary, middle-aged lawyer trying to muddle through the legal ethics that he will later be famous for writing.
