In 1971, "Blue Movie" from director Wim Verstappen was a groundbreaking film. It was the first theatrical release in the Netherlands to show sex scenes and an actual erection on screen. But, the movie is not a celebration of the free love era of the time. Rather, it is an examination of isolation in its various forms and isolation's effect on human beings desire for connection. A prescient theme that is eerily relevant today as it was fifty years ago. It was initially denied release but the film board relented and it was a huge box office success and became one of the most watched films in the history of Dutch cinema. The Cult Epics version is remastered in HD and offered with English subtitles. Michael is a parolee recently released from prison for a sexual offense. His parole officer, Eddie, is trying to keep Michael on the right path arranging for an apartment, lining up a job interview, and vetting some of his new neighbors to find a "nice young woman from a good family." What Eddie doesn't know and Michael soon finds out is that times have changed in the Netherlands. When he moves into his new apartment, Michael immediately finds open-minded and sex starved housewives who all live along the same corridor. After getting to know so many of his female neighbors he begins to start a new life professionally, arranging a big block party while launching his sex service syndicate.
