An interesting article you guys might like from the man from http://www.grooby.com/

Some of you may have seen a circulated press release recently regarding the word “shemale,” linked to a poll with the statement: “We would like to see the use of the term ‘shemale’ phased out and removed from your website. This not only affects trans women performers but all trans women.”

Despite my own personal feelings that the maker of this post is using it as a marketing tool to promote her own DVD products (something I applaud and respect her for)..

I know "shemale" is often associated with porn. For non-english speakers, it's a word like an other and has no negative sounding to it. Me for example, shemale is a word like an other.
But I know some tgirls don't like it because it can be offensive (kind of) and very porn-related.
Personally, I avoid it because of that. Of course some people are always offended by something, but in that case, I just use other words to avoid to piss somebody off when I was not intending to. I use "tgirl", which is short for transexual-girl. Never had problems with it or read anything bad so I think it's ok. And that's when the context need a differenciation between trans-girl and genetic girl, because otherwise, I just use "girl".

I stopped using shemale when I learned some trans women were insulted by it. Makes sense why, it reminds me of the older generation's use of "he-she", which I always thought was mean and stupid. I just use tgirl, or transsexual.

I guess there is no need to say they should just be addressed as girls. I understand there is a need for a more specific term for porn, but I rather prefer tgirl, it looks to me like it's stressing the female part (which is the one that matters anyway).
